Spring is almost here and with it the sounds of baby animals in our Valleys, a signal to us all the longer days are coming. Over the past month, HAPVRA has shown the importance of our community group working to unite for a common cause, and we’re so grateful to you all for your support.
Submission Lodged
We’re pleased to share that HAPVRA has formally lodged our submission opposing the Jones Road landfill. A huge thank you goes to local planner Tammy Deans and our Co-Chair Geraldine for their combined hard work. As you may have heard, we have been fundraising to prepare for the costs associated with hiring high calibre professionals, and in case we need to prepare for a hearing. Our association’s account details are below:
Hunua Ararimu and Paparimu Valley Residents Association Inc

All proceeds raised are being used for the Jones Rd case, and we plan to share in time what that looks like.
Fundraising Success
Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our community, we have received $8,000 in donations. In July, we ran a silent auction that raised over $2,000. Our biggest success—and most enjoyable event—was our Quiz Night. Many people contributed to making it an amazing evening, and special thanks go to John Hill Estate for hosting us while managing renovations. Through the generosity of our community, we raised $4,000 from auction proceeds and $5,600 from ticket sales. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed.
We have additional events in planning, depending on future funding needs. Please reach out with ideas: contact@hapvra.nz
A Note to Our Neighbours
Now that submissions have closed, we want to let the residents closest to Jones Road know that we all recognise how stressful this process has been. Please remember: you’re not alone, your community stands with you.
Looking Ahead & Next Up: The Country Fair
Before the Managedfill proposal, we had plans for a three-Valleys community event, named TTT or our Country Fair, a completely free event for our community. It’s meant as a chance to connect and celebrate everything that makes this place special. More details will follow.
