HAPVRA Update April

HAPVRA Update – April/May
Preparing for Winter, Planning for Spring.

Our region has seen some wild weather recently, which brings our focus on readiness and resilience top of mind. The winter months are closing in and all the challenges that come with living rurally, power cuts, road flooding, and trees falling – hmmm it’s not for the faint hearted! So join us in our mission to ensure we are as prepared and connected as we can be.

Please drive to the conditions. Even though the roads may look dry the surface water often tricks drivers into going a bit faster. Please take care.

PEOPLE
Emergency Readiness Wrap-Up
Our final Emergency Readiness Workshop (27 March, at Ararimu Hall) was a success with 24 attendees. Thanks to everyone who contributed feedback, offered land for evacuation use, and joined discussions – we are so grateful to live in this community. The next step is to present the information to our communities, so watch out for updates.

ENVIRONMENT
Watercare Tours
If you are interested in learning more about the Dams in our area Watercare has offered to provide more tours to our community, please reach out to us if you’d like to join a tour contact@hapvra.nz These tours are designed to help build understanding of how the Dams operate and the intricate system that provides 40% of Auckland’s water supply.

COMMUNITY
Three Valleys Spring Event – 5 October
To welcome in Spring, we’re planning a fun Ag Day-style event at Camp Adair. This is designed for the whole community, but we are going to encourage children to bring Ag Day animals for a final competition (Hunua – Ararimu – Paparimu, best of the best!) lambs, calves, or even pets to compete! And look out for: tree giveaways, small business stalls, games, and more. Volunteers wanted! If you’d like to be part of the planning and to volunteer  please email us contact@hapvra.nz

Thanks for everyone’s mahi and support – more updates coming soon! Please stay connected via our Facebook page for the most recent updates: www.facebook.com/hapvra
