HAPVRA Update June

This month has been all about emergency preparedness and celebrating our community spirit. From drop-in sessions to historic milestones, here’s what we’ve been up to around the valleys.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Community

In early June, HAPVRA was proud to support an Emergency Centre drop-in session hosted at Paparimu Hall, one of our local emergency hubs. Over 40 locals stopped in, with a free BBQ generously provided by Rural Support and Neighbourhood Support.

The session highlighted Paparimu Hall as a vital site for emergency response—equipped with solar power and stretcher beds, it’s well-prepared to support our community in the event of a crisis. We also shared practical resources on emergency preparedness. If you missed out and would like a copy, feel free to reach out (details below).

Later in the month, we were thrilled to join the amazing community celebration at Paparimu School’s 125-Year Anniversary. It was a truly special day, with past and present students, families, and Franklin Local Board’s Malcolm Bell marking the occasion. The turnout was fantastic and a proud reminder of the deep roots and vibrant history of our region.

🌱 People

We’re continuing to gather expressions of interest for our upcoming Trees, Tails & Trophies (TTT) event planned for October. This will be a community day similar to a traditional Calf Club or Ag Day, open to all three local schools.

We’d love to see:

  • Children bringing along their animals,
  • Local businesses and services showcasing what they do,
  • Volunteers lending a hand to make it a day to remember.

Get in touch if you’d like to be part of it!

🌊 Environment

Progress is well underway on the Te Wairoa River Restoration Project, especially along Hunua Road. A special thank you to the team at The Y – Camp Adair for their work on this mission to restore the health and life of our treasured awa, Te Awiroa.

You can follow our Facebook page to see regular updates—progress has been truly impressive!

As we settle into winter and prepare to mark Matariki, the Māori New Year, we look forward to the return of longer days and fresh energy in the months ahead.

Stay warm, stay connected, and take care of one another.

Ngā mihi nui,
The HAPVRA Committee
