CCTV Project in Hunua

In our ongoing efforts to keep our community safe HAPVRA worked towards the CCTV Project in the Hunua village, made possible through funding efforts. Being rural means there are some unique challenges in terms of monitoring and security, which is why the CCTV sends number plate data directly to Police.

This project is all thanks to the generous support of the Auckland Council and the Hunua Hall and Domain. The system utilises advanced ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology to log vehicles traveling through the village, playing a key role in deterring criminal activity and aiding investigations.

The CCTV network is linked directly to the Safer Cities initiative, which monitors vehicle movements through townships across the country. This technology has been effective in tracking stolen vehicles and aiding police investigations in other communities. Importantly, the system is connected directly to the New Zealand Police, allowing them to access footage as needed for official investigations.

A special thanks goes out to the Clevedon team for their valuable advice based on the success of their own CCTV system.

Please note, HAPVRA does not monitor or access the footage. Our full CCTV policy is available on our here on our website for anyone interested in learning more about how the system operates.

We are proud to take this important step in improving the safety and security of our community.

The CCTV Project is a testament to how technology and community can come together with the aim to people.

Please note that footage is held for 6 month period, if you need to access footage please contact the Police.
